Skateboard

A movement tool, not a weapon — unequip it before Genesis 01 buttons after patch 1.08.

Last updated:

The Skateboard is a full-game movement item you equip from Mellow’s inventory. It is not a combat weapon and it does not replace the Camera, Telescope, or Metal Detector. Players mostly remember it from Timesville traversal and from AndyLand’s patch 1.08 note about Genesis 01.

Official 1.08 line: “Fixed a bug where Genesis 01 would freak out temporarily if you tried to equip the skateboard while pressing a button.”

What It Is For

Use the Skateboard when a stretch of Chapter I ground is faster to roll than to walk — beach edges, Timesville paths toward the shack / aquarium, and some Green Hills connectors. Equip it the same way as any tool: click Mellow → select Skateboard → move.

It does not:

  • Count as a defeat toward A Natural Brawler (Combat)
  • Open Stay secrets
  • Replace the train or elevator
  • Water plants (that is the Office Transparent Mug, see Flower)

Patch History

PatchSkateboard-related note
1.02Softlock / collision when skating toward the bridge or left of the aquarium in Timesville
1.08Genesis 01 panics if you equip the board while pressing a button

1.02 is why older guides say “don’t skate the aquarium approach.” On current Steam (1.08) that path is intended to be safe, but you should still dismount before talking or leaning on world buttons.

Genesis 01 — Safe Use

  1. Stop moving
  2. Open inventory and unequip the Skateboard (select an empty hand or another tool)
  3. Then press Genesis 01’s button / start the conversation

If you already triggered the freak-out on 1.08, leave the room and re-enter — Andy described it as temporary. Persistent weirdness belongs in an email to [email protected] with a short clip.

Genesis 01’s page: Genesis 01.

Timesville Etiquette

Timesville already has a long list of movement traps that are not the Skateboard’s fault: beach crabs spawning the same frame as inventory (1.02), shack re-entry without the Metal Detector (1.05), telescope spam at locked doors (1.07). Treat the board as one more thing to unequip before puzzles, the same way you holster the Telescope before a locked door.

Related traversal items: Lockpick (Rat’s room), Camera (second beach dig).

When to Leave It in the Bag

  • Any button conversation (Genesis 01, Office switches, clown dinger)
  • Inventory-sensitive approaches in Misery Town — 1.08 softlocks were about opening the bag while walking up to crowds / clown rooms, and a rolling approach makes that worse
  • Scribbly pencil use — leave the room only after the item is put away (1.08 texture glitch)

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where do I find the Skateboard? A: During Chapter I exploration (Timesville / Green Hills traversal). It is a movement tool you equip from inventory, not a Stay key item.

Q: Why does Genesis 01 freak out? A: Equipping the Skateboard while pressing a button. Unequip first. Fixed as a temporary freak-out in patch 1.08.

Q: Can I skate during the gunslinger fight? A: Do not try to leave that room at all — patch 1.04 blocks mid-fight exits. Finish the duel on foot.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions about Endacopia.

Is the Skateboard required for any ending?

No. It is optional movement. Stay cares about Metal Detector and Telescope, not the board.

Which patch mentions the Skateboard by name?

1.08 (Genesis 01 + button). 1.02 already patched skating into the Timesville bridge / aquarium.

Should I unequip it before puzzles?

Yes — especially Genesis 01 buttons, locked doors, and Misery Town clown approaches.
