Timesville Fishing
Six clock states, eighteen species — license, dock diver, aquarium six-pack, and Stay Lost Key.
Timesville fishing is Chapter 1’s largest optional collectathon. Unlock the rod through Catthew’s hide-and-seek (Fishing License), show the license to the diver on the dock, then catch fish tied to the hub clock. Only three of 18 species bite per clock state — you must visit all six states for I Want To Be A Fisherman and the Stay fish-paper secret.
Story needs only 6 fish (any two clock periods). Completionists need 18 + Metal Detector Fish Paper from Beartha’s second beach dig → Lost Key.
Unlock Checklist
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Complete Catthew hide-and-seek ×3 → Fishing License |
| 2 | Beach dock — show license to diver (owning it is not enough) |
| 3 | Interact with fishing rod on dock |
| 4 | Catch fish per clock table below |
Hub context: Timesville · Walkthrough.
Controls
- M1 — cast line
- Wait for float sparkle
- M1 again — hook fish
- Move mouse left/right — keep indicator inside target zone until catch completes
Timing tips: Mini-Games · video walkthrough above (Timesville segment after aquarium setup).
How the Clock Works
Timesville time does not pass automatically. The clock advances when Mellow enters or exits buildings. To reach a new fish trio:
- Note current clock hand position (hub UI)
- Enter any interior (apartment, shop, etc.) and exit repeatedly until the hand moves
- Return to dock and fish the three species for that state
Six states × three fish = 18 total catches with no overlap between states.
All 18 Fish by Clock State
| Clock state | In-game time | Fish available |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | 08 AM | Nautilus · Colisa Lalia · Jantic Fish |
| Day 2 | 12 PM | Peter Panini · Seahorse · Singin’ Fish |
| Day 3 | 18 PM | Eel · Reddest Fish Ever · Sea Man |
| Night 1 | 08 PM | Pirate · Skele-Fish · RC Ship |
| Night 2 | 00 AM | Crab · Starfish · Big Worm |
| Night 3 | 04 AM | Drawing of a Fish · Jelly · Crate |
Species list also appears on Timesville hub page for quick reference.
??? Catch Note
Some UI states show a ??? slot until you register a species in that clock period — this is normal. Drawing of a Fish (Night 3) is the community nickname for the odd sketch-style catch; it still counts toward 18/18. If ??? persists after a successful fight, cycle the clock once and re-cast — parser/UI lag was reported pre-1.05 (Patch Notes).
Story vs Completion Targets
| Target | Count | Reward / purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Aquarium reopen | 6 fish (two clock states minimum) | Fox dialogue → party invitation |
| Party / Telescope | 6+ delivered to aquarium at night | Password Yellow → owl → Telescope |
| Achievement | 18 fish | I Want To Be A Fisherman (~27.5% global) |
| Stay secret | 18 fish + Fish Paper | Lost Key → safe beyond waterfall → Angel’s Plea |
Six fish advance Catthew’s social chain; eighteen fish are only mandatory for achievement + Stay (Stay Secrets).
Aquarium and Party Chain
After Catthew invites you to the aquarium:
- Cycle to night (enter/exit buildings)
- Visit aquarium near town entrance — Catthew + fox
- Donate 6+ fish to display tanks
- Receive party invitation
- Apartment upstairs, far-right room — identity password Yellow
- Reassure owl host → collect Telescope
Telescope feeds Office Morse Stay secret; fishing overlaps efficiently with Beartha beach digs on one Chapter I save.
Fish Paper, Metal Detector, and Lost Key
Stay fish secret (requires Escape + Return unlocked on prior runs):
- Complete Beartha through Nibbles blackmail
- Second beach Metal Detector pass yields Fish Paper (finishing paper with key graphic center)
- Catch all 18 fish across every clock state
- Inspect completed Fish Paper again — Lost Key falls out (not automatic on 18th catch alone)
- Use key on hidden safe (house beyond waterfall / shared-room area per Stay Secrets)
- Continue until Angel’s Plea scene confirms Timesville secret
Windowed mode strongly recommended for Fish Paper metal-detector sweep (Metal Detector).
Achievement Tip — Leave the Rod
Community guides (KosGuides / Steam threads) note I Want To Be A Fisherman may fail to pop if you stay glued to the rod UI after the 18th catch. Tip:
- After verifying 18/18 in Fish Paper or inventory checklist, walk away from the rod / leave dock area
- Re-inspect Fish Paper for Lost Key on Stay runs
- Save at wandering point before clock cycling marathons (Save System)
Efficient Farming Route
- Unlock license + diver in one session
- Fish Day 1 + Day 2 (6 story fish) → aquarium night visit
- Continue Beartha chain for Fish Paper while clock-cycling
- Sweep remaining four clock states methodically — keep written checklist
- Stay attempt: reload near-complete Chapter I save (Endings)
