Core Key

The Core Key is a story item from The Office’s Flower → Wrench → Core Key chain. It falls from the water cooler plumbing after you remove the panel with the Wrench and turn the water on. Owning the key does not immediately open the Core room — AndyLand gates access behind productivity, employee fetch quests, and glass-wall destruction until Chapter 1 Office content can hand off to Timesville.

Treat the Core Key as the mid-Office milestone: proof you finished Gambling Den routing, plant puzzle, and train-station trade before Eyes recovery on the triangle hub map.

How to Obtain the Core Key

Prerequisites in order:

1. Complete all Credibility Office phone calls
2. Elevator reassessment → Gambling Den path
3. Pick up Transparent Mug → fill → water plant → Flower
4. Trade Flower at train station for Wrench
5. Use Wrench on Office water cooler — remove front panel
6. Turn water on → Core Key drops from pipe

Productivity Gate — Why the Core Room Stays Locked

After the key is in inventory, interacting with the Core door may still fail — productivity too low is the intended block.

Fix sequence:

1. Use the Wrench to smash the glass wall separating Office zones
2. Enter neighboring offices and talk to every employee
3. Most refuse help until you bring a specific item
4. In Chapter 1, only Malia can be satisfied:
   • Needs: Airplane Tickets
   • Source: Win from Gambling Den dice gamblers (same wing where you got the Transparent Mug)
5. Deliver tickets → productivity rises → Core room becomes accessible with the Core Key

Core Room — What Happens Inside

The Core room is Endacopia’s corporate-horror centerpiece — surveillance motifs, employee dehumanization, and late Office puzzles. Chapter I focuses on raising productivity and establishing the key; later beats (pause softlocks, PC shutdown glitches) were patched across 1.03–1.05 (Patch Notes).

Notable patch fixes touching Core Key flow:

• 1.03 — Improper animations when picking up core keys without Eyes (recover Eyes in Timesville first if animations glitch)
• 1.03 — Softlock when pausing in the Core room
• 1.04 — Softlock entering Mayor’s office with inventory open (adjacent corporate spaces)

Relationship to Stay Ending

The Core Key itself is not one of the three Stay secret tools. Stay requires:

• Metal Detector — Misery Town + Timesville
• Telescope — Office Morse / VR helmet chain

You still want the Core Key on normal Chapter I clears because Office completion overlaps with Credibility, Gambling Den, and the Morse code secret prerequisites on dedicated Stay runs (Stay Secrets).

Q: Can I miss the Core Key permanently? A: No — the water cooler sequence is repeatable while the Wrench is in inventory. Keep a save before long Gambling Den sessions in case of dice-room crashes on older patches.
