Full Game vs Demo

What changes between the free demo and the July 27, 2026 Steam release — content, saves, price, and which to buy.

Last updated:

The Endacopia demo and the full game share the opening Prologue house, but the rest of the experience diverges sharply. This page is the side-by-side comparison most searches hit after seeing the trailer. Use it together with Release Info, Is It Scary?, and Price.

What the Demo Actually Covers

The free demo is the Prologue:

  1. Mellow wakes in his bedroom, plays Doors.exe on the PC
  2. Spins the chair 3×, climbs through the vent into the Kitchen
  3. Stealth past Henry in the cabinets, solves the fridge puzzle, picks up Cheese
  4. Returns to the bedroom, lures the cockroach, gets two Coins, feeds Wall Bank for password Cheshire
  5. Fights Clocky in the Hallway
  6. Uses the Plunger on the toilet, types Cheshire, and the Red Creature sucks Mellow down — screen cuts to black

What the Demo Does NOT Include

If you finish the demo and want anything past the bathroom, you need the full game.

What You Get With the Full Game

  • ~6 hour first run with one ending
  • Three additional named endings that require separate runs or backups (Endings)
  • All 16 Steam achievements (Achievements)
  • Post-launch patch 1.08 with Cloud saves, F9 volume reset, dice stability, Camera/green mug, Misery Town inventory softlocks, Metal Detector beep
  • Soundtrack DLC by Packtion (~92 tracks, ~$5.99) or free Bandcamp
  • Updated translations and Steam Curator reviews (16 at launch)

Which Should You Buy?

Start with the demo if:

  • You are on the fence about horror / body horror (see Content Warnings and Is It Scary?)
  • You want a free 20–40 minute sample before paying
  • You only have a Steam Deck and want to check if it runs (Steam Deck is Unknown)

Buy the full game if:

  • The demo’s tone works — opaque puzzles, creepy edutainment art, fist combat
  • You want Endings Escape / Return / Stay or Achievements 100%
  • You want the Patch 1.08 stability pass and Cloud saves
  • You have ~6 hours for one run (plus extras for 100%)

Skip both if you:

  • Want controller-native play (the game is mouse-first)
  • Need macOS Steam full — only the demo supports macOS
  • Dislike opaque puzzles that don’t explain themselves

Transfer Save?

No. Demo progress does not carry into the full game. The Steam demo (AppID 4582420) and the full game (AppID 2684630) are separate products. Buy the full game, start a new file, and play through the Prologue again — it is short.

Time Investment Comparison

PathTime
Demo only20–40 min, one sitting
Full game — first run~6–6.5 hours (How Long to Beat)
Full game — 100% (all 16 achievements, all four endings)~11–12 hours across 3–4 saves
All four endings in one playthroughNot possible — Escape and Return split at Saw Box 471; Stay needs both prior unlocks

Demo Reception vs Full Game

  • Demo: ~4.77/5 on Newgrounds (86,000+ views), Very Positive on Steam, 4.9/5 on itch.io (475+)
  • Full game: Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam through mid-August 2026; ~3,100+ recommendations
  • Patch Notes have stabilised the launch — 1.08 fixes the Camera/green mug, Misery Town, and detector beep that surfaced in the first week

macOS Buyers

The itch.io demo is the only confirmed macOS build. Full-game macOS on Steam is unconfirmed as of August 2026. If you are on macOS, run the demo first to test compatibility, then watch for an AndyLand update.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I play the demo forever? A: Yes — it is free, no Steam purchase required. You just won’t see Green Hills or the four Steam endings.

Q: Does buying the full game give me the demo? A: Demo is a separate AppID (4582420). Buy or play the demo independently; both remain available.

Q: Is the demo harder or easier than the full game? A: The Prologue puzzles are simpler than Chapter I, but no saves mean any mistake restarts the run. Full game adds saves but the optional bosses and Stay secrets are harder than any demo beat.

Q: Can I keep both saves separate? A: Yes — they are different AppIDs and Steam accounts treat them as separate libraries with separate save folders.

Q: What version of the demo is current? A: The Steam demo (AppID 4582420) is patched independently from the full game. The April 20, 2026 release is the current one as of August 2026.

Q: Will the demo be removed? A: AndyLand has not announced demo removal. It remains Very Positive on Steam and is the recommended way to try the game before buying.
